The creation of this "western square" was boosted by the growing size of the weekly market, and the traffic present in the square of the Hôtel de Ville (townhall).

In December 1834, three gentlemen from Orange, Arnaud, Aymard and the Baron de Saint-Jean, suggested they could carry out renovation works in the square - normally allocated to stall keepers - provided that they collected rental income for ten years. The market was held there for the first time in 1840.

Hotel ARÈNE has successively been owned by different families in the last century: Mr & Mrs Hector Jourdan from 1897 to 1936, Mr & Mrs Arène from 1937 to 1980, Mr & Mrs Coutel from 1981 to 2004, Mr & Mrs Jardin in 2004 who began the renovation and the expansion of the hotel with the purchase of the Rex cinema, and eventually Mr. and Mrs. MERCIER in 2016.

Hotel ARÈNE wishes to be a reference in the art of hosting and in the art of reviving the scenery of the famous Chorégies opera festival, which decorates its 40 rooms. They provide travellers with exceptional serenity and peace right in the heart of Orange.

Some of them have private terraces with view on rooftops, or on the terrace of “Le Garden” restaurant.

Each square meter of the hotel is decorated with natural tones, bathed in soft light inspired by nature: hotel Arène is a magical place where each of your wishes can come true.
